Counselling: More Than Just a Remedy for Psychological Distress

Many people associate counselling with students or individuals experiencing severe psychological distress. In reality, counselling can benefit anyone for a variety of reasons, including addressing work-related anxiety and stress. For professionals working in complex environments like matrix organizational structures, navigating the workplace can be especially challenging. Speaking with an independent, skilled counsellor—someone who understands your world but is entirely detached from your workplace—can help you gain fresh perspectives, identify core issues, and initiate meaningful change. Rest assured, all discussions remain strictly private and confidential.

A Daunting but Rewarding Journey

Seeking counselling or therapy can feel intimidating, but the rewards often outweigh the initial hesitation. Finding the right counsellor or therapist is key; someone who genuinely cares about your well-being and provides a nonjudgmental space for you to express yourself freely. I understand the importance of feeling heard and understood.

In my counselling sessions, you’ll have the opportunity to explore different therapeutic modalities and determine which approach works best for you. Many people are unfamiliar with the various forms of psychotherapy, such as Psychodynamic Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (M-CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), among others. Without proper guidance, it’s easy to feel mismatched with a therapist whose style may not align with your needs.

A Personalized and Collaborative Approach

As your counsellor, my priority is to create a safe and supportive space where we can explore your emotions and experiences together. Each session is tailored to what you bring to the table. We will work collaboratively to address emotional difficulties, build inner strength, and achieve lasting positive changes in your life.

I adopt an integrative, person-centered approach rooted in Rogerian principles, where active listening and empathy guide our work. From there, we’ll examine your challenges and explore ways to overcome them that honor your authentic self. Depending on your needs, I may also incorporate elements of Gestalt Therapy, CBT, or creative methods like art and music therapy.

Bringing Real-World Insights to Therapy

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent 30 years in senior management roles across profit and nonprofit multinational corporations. This experience gave me invaluable insights into corporate culture, workplace dynamics, and the psychological toll of human interactions in high-pressure environments. Workplace stress and anxiety often go unnoticed, but addressing and managing them with professional support can significantly improve your quality of life.

While practices like eating well, exercising, and maintaining work-life balance are important, they may not always be enough. If you feel stuck, find yourself ruminating about work, feel anxious about your workload, or struggle with peer relationships, consider booking a session with me. Together, we can address these challenges, and you’ll start to feel better.
